I bought a bunch of magnums five years ago for less than most 750's cost. This punches above what I'd expect from an entry-level BdB. It was still very fresh; grapefruit, lime and apples with some toast and florals. I've no regrets for taking a gamble on these. The bottle and the cork had no useful information regarding disgorgement, base vintage, etc.

Clear, bright, medium yellow. The nose is clean, developing, with apple, pear, lemon, hazelnuts and baked bread (24 months of aging on the lees). The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity and medium alcohol (12%). A complex and balanced Champagne w/ a very good QPR.

Maybe this wasn't this bottle's day. I've had this wine on several occasions, but this bottle didn't shine like some others I've had. Still lemony crystalline and cut with a laser, but it missed the midpalate by a mile, and it had a funky bleu cheese note that never blew off. Sort of like a cheese straw with a lemon twist. Perhaps try again.

Any CA or WA cabernet or syrah (Estrelle, St. Paul): Surprisingly less interesting than a 2012 Jose Michel Special Club. Although it was toastier, it also seemed watery, although it retained some champagne character.

Monthly Tasting Group: California and Washington Cabs/Syrah (Estelle, St. Paul, MN): Light plus gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Oxidative, lemon, nougat, lemon pith. Ok, but a little more oxidative and angular than I like.
