  • I remember tasting this wine before it was released. The vintage was 'Atlantic', slightly cooler and more challenging than is normal in Toro. I recall liking it back then and 13 years later it doesn't disappoint. I tried this wine over two days and it was, in fact, better on day two. It took on a nicely aged character and proves that these wines age very well indeed. The colour wasn't at all brick/tawney and there was still some nice fruit in there. No rush to drink up so long as you like the taste of mature wines.

  • Didn't take detailed notes. Part of Christmas dinner party cellar rade. Don't remember much of this besides how different it is to more recent vintages.

  • Had at La Fonda Del Sol so no decant and it didn't need it. Though this was a tough vintage, this wine didn't show real it's age (at first) as I would have expected. Very dark color with no bricking. Nose was meaty with dark fruits. Palate was very bright fruit bursting through with a little hint of oak. As the night went on, the acidity started to overpower the fruit and tannin, which made it come a little out of balance. Overall very enjoyable, but maybe getting toward the end of it's life and ready to drink.

  • We poured the wine into a decanter and served the first glass immediately. It was very dark ruby in colour and threw fine sediment. The wine offered blueberry, blackberry, dark chocolate, coffee powder, scorched earth, minerals and a gasoline component on the nose. On the palate the wine showed intense red and dark fruit flavours, blackberry, tons of espresso, mocha, chocolate, oak spices and tobacco on the finish, paired with medium to medium-plus acidity, medium-plus fine, dry oak tannin and tremendous length. To a large extent the full-bodied, powerful wine lived by the heavy dose of well-handled oak. Despite the wine's oak-driven profile, however, a certain deliciousness was undeniable. Drink now.

  • This bottling / vintage is better than advertised. Full aromatic nose of blackberry, mineral, earth, dark chocolate and ground coffee. Full bodied palate gains weight and fruit richness over the 6 hours this was open. Still plenty of youthful fruit that matches well with gritty tannin. Earth and mineral driven back palate and finish. True to it's place. Very good stuff.
