  • Popped-and-poured. Lots of ripe, mature red and black cherry on nose and palate. Baking spice to start that faded over time. Fruit also lost intensity with more time in glass. Very enjoyable for the first hour opened, but starting to show some tired character when finished at the two hour mark.

  • Lush and exciting black fruit aroma with lots of spice, clearly advanced, but I wouldn't have thought it 20+ years old. Same fruit on palate with some sweet baking spice, background mineral hints not really showcasing "Chambolle," with more emphasis on fruit and concentration vs finesse. Still, an exceptional Villages level wine at this age.

  • Simple Series I: Andrew's Birthday (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): This had just crested the hill and was on its downward march. Would have loved to have tried it a couple of years back. Still though, immensely enjoyable, even when stacked up against the very intimidating company on the same flight. Incredible nose. Lots of flowers, red cherries and cranberries, some dried earth. Not the most complex bouquet, but this had great depth and integration and really pretty lines. Palate had lots of fresh acid and a nice gentle shape, but the fruits had just started to dry out ot show dried cranberries and raisins and slightly meidcinal herbs, especially towards the long, but rather dried and woody finish where dired prunes prevailed. Fresh as it was, the wine felt just a little thinned out at points. Thankfully, it was just about as energetic enough to fill the mouth with some light but charming flavours. All in all though, a really, really enjoyable drink.
