Very soft but unsaturated cork. Wine is transparent garnet in color, dropped much sediment and is a bit muddy, even though it was not touched in a few years and drunk out of the cellar. 14.9%alc, kinda high, but consistent with the hot year. The last bottle was a stewed prune mess, but this is far cleaner and still has decent fruit and acid. If I had the time, I would filter it through cheesecloth twice for clarity, but not tonight. Enjoyed 1/2 a bottle. Will be dead in the AM.

Perfect fill. Very light edge. Needs a bit of air, to wake up, still it is a wine on decline,. By no means dead, ripe fruit still here, no rough edges, fine sweet, but there is no lift here (was there ever? the vintage is tricky) #podcast

Little seepage through mid-cork and heavy curly sediments in the bottle. Medium garnet meniscus shows the age and the heat of the vintage. Opens up quickly upon heady notes of goudron, poutpourri, dried herbs, shrivelled blackberries, beef stock. Tense on the palate, aromas well guided from rich tannins and cranberry acidity. Unfortunately, this state of grace lasts shortly, as the wine oxidises quickly. In about 15-20 mins it was well over its maturity, flat and tired, not dislike an aged South Australian Shiraz. Pity. But a blissful 15 minutes.

Past its prime, I assume partly due to the hot vintage. Drink up.
