  • Horrible cork - damp to the top. Below average fill. Appropriately pale garnet red. Initially pronounced aromas of sous bois and leafy notes on the nose - which I often find with older Bize Savigny. The palate is somewhat fresher if that is the right word for a 31 year old wine. Red cherry fruit, showing the ripeness and caressing texture of the vintage. Complex. Some sous bois here too, but either I got use to it or it blew off a bit after 30 minutes. Fully ripe tannins settle in the cheeks. Length as befits a Premier Cru. Improved after an hour - the fruit coming more to the fore and sweeter too. Brighter acid. And by then I had persuaded myself this is really good, with the character of a slightly rustic country gentleman of some distinction walking in the damp woods wearing a worn but well tailored jacket. Needs food. Despite the lowish fill and doggy cork, testimony to the fact that Patrick Bize made wines that last. Bought on release.

  • Plenty of dried cherries, plum?, sandlewood and earthy, fallen leave notes. Quite savoury on finish. Still has plenty of drive and life left.

  • PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby with slightly garnet rims.

Very nicely preserved cherries, mandarin orange, sous bois and also smoke and sandalwood. Some chocolate and coffee too. Some nice white spices too. Very nice tertiary aromas.

Good integration but also good robustness of flavours. Quite finessed. Good finish.

    93-94 points.

  • PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“No” day): Medium ruby with some fine deposits.

Mature red cherry fruits, savoury notes like dried shrimps and meaty notes. Liquorice and dried leaves.

Very nicely still tannic. Good integration of flavours. Enjoyable now.

    92-93 points.
