A touch past peak drinking but a very balanced wine that, with a bit of air, showed its Coonawarra roots. A bit of choc mint and cigar box. Acid has held it all well for a wine that was really made to be opened much earlier than 10 years.

This won a trophy in the national wine show. I can only assume that it was a commercial volume class.
In its youth it was particularly disappointing, very plain. It's now fleshed out a bit, certainly more attractive, though the flavours are simple tomato leaf (like some Merlot in Australia) not really Cabernet. On the 2nd night a retained (carefully sealed with no air) half of the bottle was better still. Commercial, a bit syrupy, but flavoursome.
Sealed with screwcap. 14%ABV. Drink over next 4 years.

Again I have been let down by McWilliams. This Coonawarra Cab is thin and stretched out; there are some hints of the lush Coonawarra Cab I've come to enjoy, but then they're lost in the insipid, thin fluid found in the bottle. Hot and unbalanced, and no better with ragú. Not good.

Purple to red in colour, there is dusty olive and cassis with muted dark fruits on the nose, the oak plays a very secondary role.
The palate has dense blackcurrant on entry, with plum and cedar that starts to thin over the mid palate, the finish has soft drying tannins , but a slight metallic like twang.
This wine certainly needs time to show its true form rather than just flashes of excellence. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2015-2020)
