Masculine mature nose. Olives, leather and earthy notes. Burly, it seems past its peak and the structure of the wine seems to be fading. Not focused. Still some fruit on the palate. Severe. I did not manage to really appreciate this CdP.

the 1990 chateuneufs are a mixed lot right now in my opinion. the vieux don jon that i recently had was on top of its game. pegau has become inconsistant. a recent clos du cailloux was just ok. same for this one. probably should have been consumed 4-5 years ago. drying ouy. fruit subdued.

Chinese Take-out at Siggy's: Fresh ruby red color with an ever so slight brick/rust at the rim. On the nose this offers fresh red fruit with a lovely garrigue, mineral, mushroom and floral notes. Wild but nice. The taste offers concentrated ripe red fruit and mushrooms with excellent balance and well integrated tannin. The finish is very satisfying. It is really impressive how young this bottle showed (in fact, this was served blind and one person contemplated 2003 CdP for awhile!).

Grower Champagnes and Chinese Take-Out w/ Dave & Chris (Our House): Tasted blind. At first I thought this was a Burg, and I ultimately guessed 2000 Clos des Papes. Initially reticent nose; with time, beautifully expressive red fruit emerges. Herbs, garrigue, and smoky, plummy fruit. Gorgeously ripe but not sweet. Well-displayed secondary flavors of tobacco and forest floor. Fully resolved tannins. Thanks Dave!
