  • This was fantastic - just perhaps slightly misses the mark on depth/concentration, but overall, awesome - medium ruby maroon, just barely starting to show age - fabulous, perfumed, spicy, peppery, floral nose, a real pleasure to smell - palate is silky smooth, definitely ready, and again characterized by ripe blackberry fruit supported by perfumed floral notes - great balance, eminently drinkable, just plain delish, very good finish. Lacks real depth and heft, but that style has its charm, and I often prefer it. Lovely wine.

  • Several years ago I scored this wine an 89. This time it’s a solid 92, drinking beautifully. It’s what Northern Rhône wines is about. No hurry to drink, but why wait?

  • Clear medium red. Medium intense black pepper, beef broth and black berry nose. Dry berry, pepper and roasted meat flavours and a dry medium weight dry finish.

  • Clear medium red. Very concentrated warm nose, menthol, beef froth black pepper and dark berry fruit. Slightly roasted earthy black cherry flavours and a long rich tannic finish that leaves a bit of mint behind.

    Hold.

  • Cornas lunch (Macleay Street Bistro, Potts Point): The appearance is clear and deep purple in colour. Tears are visible.

The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium intensity and show notes of bottle age (savoury character), black fruit (blackberry, bramble, subtle black plum), mineral (subtle menthol), and a generic herbaceous character. The wine is developing.

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are ripe and sand paper in nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (blackberry, bramble, black plum), mineral (menthol), and a generic herbaceous character. The finish has a medium(+) length.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a great balance with the acidity and the alcohol. The tannins have a good balance with the acidity. The oak treatment appeared neutral; not interfering with the fruit expression. In its current state, the wine shows primary and tertiary characters. The wine has a finish with great length.

The wine drinks well now, but has potential for further ageing. The fruit intensity is great, and the tannin and acid structure should support the wine as tertiary notes continue to develop.
