Similar to the bottle I had a year and a half ago. We opened and let sit for an hour. Fruit on the nose. The palate was berries, leather, mushroom and hints of fall forest floor. The finish was moderate to long.

A nose that brings me back to Tuscany! Wonderful notes of old leather, tobacco, ripe fruit...love the those aromas of aged Sangiovese Grosso. Rich and smooth...very long finish...definitively ready to drink. Even better with the meal. Only had one bottle...too bad. Loved it!

I had a 2006 from a different winery a couple of days back; this 2007 San Filippo ($20 lower price) stands out, significantly, in comparison. 2007 is clearly getting to a great drinking window earlier than 2006. This wine had excellent, rich fruit that carried a very long finish. The nose had that wonderful leather and wet forest floor that is so characteristic of outstanding Brunello. The acid and tannin balance was quite good. The current state might be indicating that the 2007's won't be as long lived as some more rigidly structured vintage. Nevertheless, this wine is pumping on all cylinders right now; making it a marvelous experience. Taking in the nose brought me back to sitting in a little piazza in Montalcino on pleasant fall afternoon.

Pnp'd at dinner. Dark fruit on the nose, the palate was dark plums, leather and mushroom. The finish was moderate.
