  • Very dense and opaque black-red color. Really over-the-top and surprisingly developed nose with aromas of blueberries, meaty tones, herbal minty character, cassis liqueur, some nutty rancio, light canned olive character, a little bit of canned beets or pickled onions, hints of cooked cauliflower and a touch of milk chocolate. The wine turns more oxidative and somewhat porty with air. The wine tastes pretty much as it smells like, so there is no point in repeating that plethora of adjectives. Overall the wine is full-bodied, pretty savory and moderately tannic with surprisingly high acidity for a Chilean Syrah. However, the fruit flavors come across as somewhat dull, a little bit cooked and slightly flat. There are also some developed leathery tones and vegetal hints of bell pepper and leafy greenness. The finish is long, meaty and somewhat developed with flavors of blueberries, some blackcurrant jam, a little bit of earth and a hint of smoke.

A surprisingly developed and complex Syrah - especially one at only 4 years of age - but not particularly enjoyable at that. The wine feels rather unpleasant and perhaps a bit cooked - or if the wine is showing as it should be, it is definitely a really fast-aging wine for a Syrah. A memorable wine for sure, but still nothing I'd buy for myself. A tad expensive for its style at 16,90€.
