(Mark Ryan Winery Lost Soul Syrah Yakima Valley) Completely opaque. An aromatically complex and expressive wine with iron, huckleberry, herbs, currant, bacon, and earth. The palate is satiny, textured, and dense with seamless fruit and earth flavors that draw out and lead to a lingering finish. A gorgeous wine that you can just sit and smell and be completely satisfied. 100% Syrah. Les Vignes de Marcoux Vineyard. Aged 20 months in French oak (33% new). 14.9% alcohol. 225 cases produced. Sample provided by winery.

This wine remains one of my favorites. Fruity yet savory, blackberry layered with blood, earth, olive. Drinking well now, but plenty of life remains.

Not a shy wine. A blast of black cherry and blackberry fruit is followed by sweetish vanilla spice and milk chocolate that mixes with a bit of coffee flavor on the finish. It was good but more than I was really in the mood for tonight.

2010 Lost Soul ($48) really stood out for me. 100% Syrah, the wine is inky and smokey with great fruit and texture. The smokiness lingers on the finish–a really nice wine. 90-92 points.
