  • My only bottle opened for the quarterly special wine group today. Wow I'm thrilled. Excellent long cork in perfect condition. Straight away lovely dark fruit smells, very attractive.

In the glass, very dark crimson with browning around the edges - well why not after 17 years in bottle! Very promising bouquet with dark fruits and some violets, a touch of liquorice and cedar giving complexity and substance. Excellent appearance.

Tasting great. There is still significant tannin with rich ripe fruit. The oak flavour is not very noticable but probably has amply supported this wine for so long. Lovely rich black berries with good weight of tannin. I found balancing acidity very much in check thus providing a very good drink with food that is more tannin and fruit based. Still good length without any hit of acid. Its just so pleasant this way.

As is my technique, a drop in the glass at the end of drinking provides a perfect cabernet and friends sniff, no jam, no green tinges. I think there is more life left in this wine! But its drinking very well now.

  • Good Bordeaux Blend that is probably fully mature. Good dark colour, lead pencil on the nose, lots of cassis, slightly silkly texture. Quite round, with no harsh edges. Touch of ceder as well. 2nd half of the bottle was better on Wed night than the first on Sunday.
