  • A very pretty brick color with a wide orange rim.

    Medium bodied with high acidity.

Dry on the palate and unbalanced.

Showing red plums, cherries, earth, raspberries, tobacco leaf, forest floor and iron.

Short finish with fine grained tannins and pomegranates.

This 24 year old Pinot Noir is over the hill by now, but still drinkable.

I loved the nose and the color, but the palate was not there. I did like that it still showed some tannins, though.

Needed an hour to open up properly, but not much was left at that point.

Paired wonderfully with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

    12% alcohol by volume.

    86 points.

  • Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is well into its downhill slope. Still surprisingly tannic, but the strawberry fruit is mostly gone, replaced by wet loamy earth, some dried herbs, and dried cherry skin.

EDIT: jk, thought this was way over the hill and while it’s fully mature, it still offers plenty of enjoyment with some air to open up and enhance the freshness. Cedar, raspberry, earth, mushroom, and a touch of soy round out a savory profile. Drink now, but give it air.

  • This bottle had a medium ruby colour, with a weak and browning fringe. To start, very good ripeness with dark cherry aromas and a bit of bay-leaf too. Seems very fresh for its age. Then a whole lot of wood shows up, followed by some stalky characters. With every new pour, it seems so fresh, and, at one hour, the wine is at its ripest, as one can detect raisins, even though there is sous-bois coming through as well. A lovely mouthful it is too. Generous fruit with completely resolved tannins. I can't recall this vintage of Chamirey tasting this ripe previously. Reasonable length, but the finish becomes a little ragged towards the end of the bottle. Very good plus, on this occasion.

  • Lightish ruby, but verging on garnet now, with russet fringe. Welcoming, ripe, red-cherry laden nose. Shows up some oak after half an hour, and then some more. The oak just about overwhelms the fruit at the hour. Older, mature Burgundy, but fading once the wine is exposed to air. Medium body. Initially, lovely richness and old fruit here. The first couple of glasses were fine, but then the wood began to show in the mouth, with the fruit receding, and the wine tasted quite dry at the tail. Unquestionably drying up now, but this bottle was a whole lot better than the previous one. Still has charm. Very Good, but drink up.

  • A lightish, bare red, with a broad tawny fringe. Looks at prime to me. Stalky nose. There certainly is a a strong impression of bay-leaf here. Not picking up any oak. Though there is some cherry coming through, the nose lacks nuance as it lacks ripeness. In the mouth it tastes quite rustic. Dry, very dry at the tail. Ordinary. A very disappointing bottle in the context of previous bottles of the same wine.
