Almost no signs of age. Blood red and clear - pure Sangiovese colours. Brooding ripe black cherry, prune and gunpowder on the nose. Medium to full bodied. Gentle plum and chocolate on the front palette balanced by the decent acidity keeping this from going flabby in its middle age. Short finish, some molasses and tobacco there, satisfying but not hugely complex. I do not think this wine is dramatically past peak and this bottle was not stored in absolutely ideal conditions.
Lovely decent old Brunello to finish off an incredible menagerie of Italian wines over the last two weeks!

Took some time to open up, but did show some good qualities and a soft finish. Definitely nearing the end of its life however...

A classic Brunello, restrained scent and palate, well-structured with plenty of grip on the finish.

Deep garnet color. Raspberry, currant, black tea, and pepper flavors with good structure and fine tannins. Somewhat tight finish.

Vertical tasting of La Togata Brunello (Alison and Claudio’s house in Bassano di Teverina): Ruby core and rim. No fruit. Definitely a faulty wine, with debate as to whether it was corked (I thought so, although the cork taint was subtle). No rating
