Ruby, with Raspberry, Strawberry Jam and a touch of smoke on the nose - this wine is full bodied - fruity and tannic, with a long soft mouthfeel - There is an intense attack of fruit and it finishes long and soft with lingering berry and jam flavors
(I am just starting to try my hand at more detailed tasting notes)

Super spicy on nose and tongue (Pepper sauce) with nice medium fruit flavors in the background. You can feel the alcohol but it is balanced well with all the spice and fruit. Finish is lingering spice.

I like but don't love this wine. It's a little too jammy for me, but it gets most of the balance right. On opening, the acids are actually pretty pronounced, but they blow away, leaving the wine a little soft. Wife says it's not Zin, but I think it's really Zin, and maybe a little prone to the high ABV, all fruit side of that. Blackberries, tiny amount of blackberry foliage, just a hint of pepper, some currant... seeing all the fruit descriptors here? Matt Cline deserves huge props for making really good wine (actually, the Live Oak is great wine) from endangered vineyards. Look up Lucchese vineyard to see what is at risk. In the Zin specialist category, Cline belongs with the major leaguers--Draper, Peterson, Talty, Sbragia, Mauritson--but he bats just a little lower in the lineup. No shame in that. Maybe that Live Oak is like Gene Tenace in the 1972 World Series, but he deserves a place on the roster.

Nice, jammy Zin, but really needs some air. Very tight and hot, even after decanting for an hour. But a trip through the Vinturi changes everything-mellow and fruity, with pepper and jam overtones and a long dark berry finish. Maybe more time in the bottle or decanter, or just use the aerator and enjoy.

Full flavors of dark fruit. Balanced with nice acidity. Drinking well. Paired with pasta and red sauce.
