Nose shows notes of marzipan, petrol, dulce de leche and a hint of citrus zest (mandarin, lime). Palate is remarkably fresh and lively, considering its age: medium-bodied and smooth, with a firm structure and crunchy acidity. Flavours of fresh apple (green, crunchy), and baked apple (tarte Tatin with butter, pastry and hints of vanilla and cinnamon).

Riesling Rampage: Lots of honey and marmalade aromas, with a little bit of oxidization. Palate is decent to drink, it is fully developed though and likely a little way past its best as is it quite broad. I tried a bottle in 2005 and thought it was fully ready to drink at that point, so some bottles being in decline is probably natural.

Amber colour Nose of caramel, butter, orange cake and vanilla with great height. Mouth of toffee, butter, treacle, grapefruit with a lovely buttery texture. Finish of caramelised peanuts with good length

Looks like gulab jaman. A magnificent nose with excellent height of rosewater that goes on and on. It's hard to stop inhaling. Mouth caramel and apricot but the acid is too much without food. On the flip side, it cuts very nicely through Indian food. A long finish of peaches and orange peel. Certainly should be drunk up as seems to be in decline compared to the 1997 vintage.

NobleRottersSydney - Oz riesling 2000 & older (Guillaume at Bennelong): {12.5%, cork} Mid lemon colour. Developing lime aromas – no petrol here. Medium bodied wine, intense, tight – like a coiled spring still. Even balance across palate, but the buttoned-down apple fruit is still subdued and shrouded. Good for another 8-10 years, I reckon. Although hardly ‘closed down’, I think this need much more time to show at its best.
