BWC 2014 - The Grand Crus of Chambertin: Divisive. The wine felt out of place at a Burgundy dinner, as it smacked more of Pinot Blanc than it did of place for the first 20 minutes. It is big and ripe and just not within the realm of white Burgundy as I know it. But then things smooth out a bit and the components harmonize more and it comes together. After a half hour the familiar Burgundian texture of chardonnay and stone take over, albeit with ripe apricots on top. It really is an interesting and high quality wine.

Light golden color. Nose of apples, nuts, a little anise, and a little funkiness. Palate of sweet apple some pear, hazlenut and lots of oak, some butter. Lower minerality and acidity than I like in a white Burg. Interesting but not great.
