  • 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Somewhat developed, translucent pomegranate color with noticeable pale orange hue. Somewhat restrained and quite old nose with very mature aromas of raisined fruit, pruney dark fruit, a little bit of pungent oxidation, a hint of bretty Band-Aid character (without bretty leather or barnyard) and a touch of roasted spices. The wine is full-bodied, ripe and tannic on the palate with oxidative wizened dark fruit, some peppery spice, a little bit of leather, a hint of tar and a touch of smoke. The fruit department feels somewhat tired but the structure is still fully alive with high acidity and ample, grippy tannins. The finish is long and grippy with intense flavors of sour cherry bitterness, some tart lingonberries, a little bit of developed leather, a hint of oxidative pruney fruit and a touch of meat broth and soy sauce.

A nice and pretty classic Barolo, but also one that is obviously going downhill. Most likely this wine has hit its plateau of maturity more than a decade ago and started going downhill some years ago. It is still perfectly enjoyable and well-structured to be paired with food, but it is overdeveloped to be fully enjoyable as a pristine aged Nebbiolo. Good, but not great anymore.
