I think Motz is on to something in his review of this wine. Something is masking the fruit. I think some of the masking comes from a heavy hand with the oak chips, but I also think there is a very heavy lees influence that increases the mouth feel, and decreases the ability of the fruit to shine. There is also a considerable amount of raw, malic acid that is not helping. What's going on here? This is a respectable producer, though this is not necessarily Pinot territory. I can barely discern this as Pinot. I decanted and waited 24 hours and think the wine got worse. Maybe 2011 was a crummy vintage in the South of France.

Dark cherry red color; pomegranate, ripe raspberry nose; tight, tart cranberry, mineral palate with medium acidity; needs 1 year to integrate; medium-plus finish

Cherry cough syrup nose. Dry cherry with tannins and oak. Smooth and light, lingers for a short while.

Slightly under ripe and very acidic fruit, masked by excessive oak. Not awful, but not enjoyable either.
