PNP. Dark ripe fruit on the nose with nice secondaries. Dark, concentrated fruit on palate but also the minerals of the cab franc show well. Long finish. Great with grilled steaks. After an hour or so I did notice the tannins became more prominent and a touch dry. There is plenty of fruit left here and possible they will soften but worth considering drinking this now as in a great spot. A-

The ‘01 Maya is a fantastic wine that is drinking well today, but should hold on for another decade or more. It is currently at a beautiful point in its evolution where it is starting to showcase some tertiary notes, but rich black fruit remains the center piece.
The nose was beautifully perfumed with slightly jammy blackberry fruit, smoke, violets, and a touch of bell pepper. On the palate, the wine was medium in body, showing more finesse than power. I found black fruit, licorice, smoke, and lavender tones. The tannins were largely integrated and finely textured but still poked out a bit towards the finish, leaving some room for the wine to further soften over the coming years. The acidity level was medium to high, with the wine coming across as quite fresh.

Decanted 90 minutes. This was really good for the first 30 minutes. Rich, dark fruit and very concentrated. Then the tannins became very pronounced, and took away from the wine. Not sure if more time would have had a better result. A-/?
