  • Medium-deep purplish crimson in color. Underwhelming “cheap red wine” nose—not much other than some faint, indistinct dark fruit, some grapeyness, and that vague leathery/yeasty note that lets you know it’s fermented. Decent concentration on the palate and no off-tastes, but also not much going on. Some juicy, plummy fruit and a dusting of peppery spice, moderate tannin, and actually a pretty nice tart fruit finish with pretty good length. Fine as a simple, nondescript red, but certainly not worth $20. Looking back at my notes, this made a similar impression to an Abbazia di Novacella lagrein I had in July; perhaps it’s just the nature of the grape.

  • Bought this after reading WSJ article about lighter red's for the summer from Italy's Alto Adige region. Really enjoyed the wine, lots of fruit some lighter tannin. Was more medium bodied than light in my opinion and went well with grilled meats. A good buy at $20 and a bit of a conversation piece being its from a part of Italy that used to be Austria. Will certainly buy again.
