  • 2016 base. I really did not like this. Eggshell nose, some sulfur notes. Sherry palate. Austere at the same time. Some others did but this was far too reductive for my palate. Score withheld.

  • Last bottle - I have really enjoyed this Champagne. It has matured nicely over the drinking period but was v enjoyable at each stage. This last bottle was perhaps just a tiny bit too old as tasted (but did not look) a bit 'muddied.' Definitely ought to get more. This was base vintage 2009

    Guter, universeller Speisebegleiter.

  • Information about the wine
Vazart-Coquart Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru comes from a Grand Cru vineyard of eleven hectares in Chouilly. The age of the Chardonnay vines there averages 43 years. The vines are deeply rooted in belemnite chalk. The winery was in conversion to sustainable and organic viticulture. The first certified organic harvest was in 2020, and this cuvée used 65% of the harvesting from 2016, 5% each from the 2015 and 2014 harvests, and 25% from a réserve perpétuelle started in 1982, 40% of which is taken and replenished each year. The base wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and underwent malolactic fermentation. The champagne was degorged in January 2021 with a dosage of 1.5 grams.

    Color
    pale golden yellow

    Nose
Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is pleasantly cool and clear on the nose with lots of chalky and chalky components, green to light yellow citrus fruit and pithy apple notes including peel. Overlying these are white flowers, especially lime blossoms, with a bed of honey and almond cream on buttered toast underneath, though not imprinting, but subtle and much less pronounced than in the Brut Réserve.

    Palate
The palate shows ripe white-fleshed pome and stone fruit, further grapey notes and the freshness and pressure of limes and lemons with zest and juice. Pressure builds here, and the chalky, chalky minerality does its part to make the Champagne seem fresh and lively. The perlage vibrates finely. The Réservewein provides an elegant base of autolysis notes, which, however, as already in the fragrance, hold back and provide, as it were, only the matching dot on the i.
