  • What a great nose! Red and dark fruit, cherry, black raspberry, garrigue, tar, kirsch, spice and some leather notes on the finish. A lovely nose that got better with an hour open.
We had some of this with our friend who dropped by and the rest with Mamoun's lamb shawarma and chicken kebabs plus hummus and tahini. A nice pairing that improved the wine still further.

This are ready to drink now. Great QPR for the $20 close-out price.

  • Double decanted. Best showing for this bottle so far. Dark nose with raspberry liqueur, charcoal and thyme. On the palate good acidity with more raspberry liqueur, and a touch of earth melting into a chalky tannic finish. Not overly complex, but showed well.

  • Mostly CdP (Dr. M's in Ohio City): I was not expecting this to be as good as it was. More than just solid. Dark ruby in color. The nose has cherries and some anise. On the palate, cherries turning slightly sour on the finish. Nice texture. Nothing green. A bit of depth to it. I don't recall trying this but I do remember not that great notes on it. At least the bottle showed quite well. Nothing austere or thin about it. Certainly not a fruit bomb, but it holds its own.

  • It's been about a year since we opened a bottle of this. Decanted it this time, and it really hit its stride after about 2 hrs open. Much better than the previous bottle. Black cherries and some liqueur with hints of vanilla, char, violets and a bit of alcohol (the alcohol was more apparent when the bottle was opened). Full bodied with good acidity and more dark sweet cherries on the palate. I really liked the pepper on the finish; this is still fairly tannic. It will be interesting to see what my last bottle looks like.

The winery lists this as 15% ABV, while the bottle lists this as 14% ABV. 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre.

(Château Sixtine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Manus Dei) Very dark ruby color; ripe cherry, ripe berry, ripe raspberry nose; tasty, rich, tart cherry, tart berry, mineral palate with good acidity; ready now but could benefit from 1-2 years of age and should go 10-12; medium-plus finish (60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre)
