  • I just wanted one glass of wine after several days of pre-and during Thanksgiving heavy hitting. Found this on a back shelf in the cellar and as I sometimes do, reluctantly thought, "well it's ok if I don't like it, I don't even know how it got here, what I or someone else paid for it, and if I pour it out, it's probably for the best anyway". A 12 year old Rully? I don't care how vielles the vignes are, my expectations were low. And guess what, I was wrong, again. This is pretty in a mature Burgundy kind of wine, having gracefully aged into the latter stages of development like an arthritic but good natured old dog, still poking its head playfully through the leaves and underbrush. Nose is ripe red and cherry fruit, earth, forest floor, and spice. It's light textured, pleasingly sour, with just a hint of grapey sweetness left and a believable 13% alcohol. "Grand vin de bourgogne" as the label optimistically states? Probably not, but a very pleasant surprise. And imagine my surprise as I glanced at the bottle and saw there was almost nothing left.
