(Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese*) ($30.00) Want to be completely convinced how totally wrong most of us were about 2003? Here’s an almost adult Riesling that’s wonderfully balanced and limpid, and shows all the beeswax and chamomile of the vintage to perfection. It’s not slim but it’s quite graceful and its weight is elegantly dispersed; it’s barely “sweet” but wonderfully drinkable.

Golden. From a very hot, dry and difficult vintage with low acidity. It is a nice example in the context of the vintage, but it is sweeter and not as aromatic as its peers from better vintages. Pineapple, minerals, brown sugar. This will hold for ten more years, but for what do you want to wait?

Öppnad en timme. Behöver det för att bli av med tennsmaken.
Råggul
Doft av honungsmelon, ananas
Smak från burkananasspad, honungsmelon, gulbeta kanderad frukt. Söt. Sötare än snittet för Spätlese. God, men lite svåtanalyserad. Känns hyfsat i balans och i drickfönster men är sugen på att spara någon flaska fem-åtta år till.
