Bottle variation rears its' ugly head...or perhaps this bottle wasn't stored properly (cork wouldn't hold the corkscrew, had to use the Butler's Friend)...or the barometric pressure was wrong...or any one of a hundred other variables! This bottle from Winebid (not criticizing, as 99.9% of what I get from them is in great condition) was not as complex as the bottle I had in June (that one direct from Dehlinger). Also it was a tad alcoholic/hot. However, still really good/smooth, just a bit disappointing due to those darned expectations! This time I feel like a long aeration would have helped. This bottle seems to confirm my thought in June that it should be drunk sooner than later.

To quote the ESPN SPORTSCENTER host, Holy Schnikees! Our history with Dehlinger starts in 1984 so we are long time fans, and this is one of their best. This begins with fantastic floral aromas, continues with a smooth as silk mouthfeel and ends with deep, complex dark fruit. Based on this experience, I suggest drinking within the next year or so. It will mellow, but perhaps at the expense of its' fruit and energy. No aeration needed, just pop, pour and enjoy.

No formal notes. Just a really tastey syrah, well balanced and drinking very well right now.

PNP. Blue and black fruit on the nose and palate. Medium finish. This wine is drinking so well and is still developing.
