  • This wine was extremely youthful upon opening. Would have thought it was a 2012. Big red "new world" fruits bursting from the glass. It drank well, but had a distracting amount of acidity on the finish. Night two saw the fruit back off, but the acidity remained prominent. Night three was when this hit its stride. A mellower, more complex nose, that included a much earthier note, dense mid-palate, and soft harmonious finish. Recommend a 6 hour decant, or wait another 5 years. This one has a long life ahead of it.

  • Touring Northern Spain; 4/17/2014-4/26/2014: (Akelarre) Very modern Rioja with lots of dark fruit and coffee notes and quite a bloody taste. Impressive but perhaps a shade overdone.

  • Blend of 85% Tempranillo with 15% Graciano. Made with grapes sourced from 40 to 60 year old vines from Pago El Rincón, at LAN's own vineyard Viña Lanciano. Spent 22 months in new French oak plus 24 more in bottle before its release. 19,000 bottles made.

Inky, black-purple. Reserved nose opening up into layers of black fruit, tar and licorice with shades of chocolate, balsamic with accents of spice. Muscular and intense on the palate with richly layered flavours yet standing intriguingly elegant.
