  • No rating on purpose. This wine is definitely on the downward slope, but in its defense I did not prepare the bottle very carefully. I stood the bottle up 48 hours in advance. In retrospect, it needed more like 10 to 14 days. The wine had nice lighter ruby color when poured out of the bottle, but it was a bit cloudy in the glass. This translated to a silt-like mouthfeel on the palate, reminiscent of Merlot. The nose was quite nice and soft and the overall taste was soft. This wine has given up any power it once had.

If you have a bottle, I would suggest drinking it within the next 6 to 12 months. Serve at 60 degrees.

  • I often read 'forest floor' in Pinot Noir notes from Oregon, but don't think I've ever experienced it...until now. Fresh forest floor - not rotted old leaves, but fresh fallen pine needles and underbrush, with wild berries as you'd expect on a forest floor as well. Amazingly rustic, this nose. It's brightness on the nose belies the weight of the mouthfeel, however, which is packed with power (for a Pinot) and weight. Blast of darker fruits, but still bright and lively - more of the pine forest pokes through, bit of an abrupt finish and a hint of bitterness. One thing I do enjoy about many Oregon Pinots is how feeble they appear in the glass, and how much power lies behind it - I guess that's one of the great qualities of Pinot Noir. When you have a dark, rich wine with deep color, you expect the palate to match, and it often does. With Pinot, you are lured in by elegance, and while elegance is delivered, also many layers of complexity surprise you. Well done, VF.

  • The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), cherry, forest floor, vanilla and hazelnut. It tastes like black currant (cassis), blackberry, raisin and forest floor. The body is light/medium. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.
