Tasted at the same time as the 2012, this wine offers serious wine cognoscenti a hint of what Barbera when grown in the right location can offer. I always thought, before Gallo absorbed the brand, that Louis Martini's best wine was his Barbera. This Noceto takes Martini's Special Selections of bygone years to the next step beyond. Intensely colored with a blueberry nose — oh, I hate to use these other fruit comparisons — it shows that barbera must be grown in a warmer climate. Bottom line: Softer and more balanced than nop-notch Piedmontese Barberas, it exceeds them for just this reason. On top of the wine's intensity there is a touch of volatile acidity. In this day and age, this hint of VA is a welcome return to the old days in a time of ultra-clean and often boring winemaking styles. If you can find any of this wine, buy it!

Not as good as other years from the same wine maker. Noceto makes a fine product all around, but this one missed compared to other years.

Good Barbera. Needed some time to open and get rid of the alcohol on the finish.
