I kind of agree with another member that this may be a bit over the peak. I've had a few Sea Smokes in my time and I've cellared this one for about 6 years and it's my last. It's a bit tight or tired but has the prerequisite Strawberry, Pomegranate, some spice and other notes from the AVA, just not in an extracted, intense way. There are many less expensive PN from Sta Barbara Cty AVA's that can now surpass the Sea Smoke hype.

Definitely appears to be on the decline, but still a nice wine. Opened the bottle an hour before serving, but perhaps should have done a proper decant as it still seemed to be developing as we finished about an hour after first sip. Started a little veggie heavy, with some ripe red fruit and apple skins. Lost the apple skins and veggies after a while and added some pepper.

Ripe strawberry and raspberry. Celery stick? A little peppery. Gained a little elegance as it opened up, preferred after it was open for a couple hours. Big bodied and expressive, fairly well balanced. Higher alc on the label, but no detectable heat. Showed well without food at a party with a variety of bottles open (even after the Alban Grenache!).

Good wine, but a style I'm not as into any more. Pairs with food more like Syrah than Pinot - big bodied and expansive, layered flavors. No formal notes (brought to restaurant) but I recall cherry cough syrup, dark cherry, a melange of other red fruit and a balancing note of cantaloupe. Worked well with a wide variety of small plates ranging from figs and burrata to heartier fare like rack of lamb.

Loved by the group, though I thought it was a bit down from previous tastings. Noticed a little apple skin, which I associate with a bit too much age, but otherwise this gave no clues of being past its prime. Was not able to decant, though let it sit in glass about 20 minutes, but I'm sure it would have benefited with more time as 2nd glass showed improvement. Still quite good and an excellent representative of Santa Ynez area PN.
