This was a jeroboam bottle purchased at auction in 2015, and the guest of honor at a dinner party we hosted with several wine-loving friends tonight. Decanted and began to sample immediately after opening. Color was inky purple-black. Nose was faintly floral and ripe with fruit. The fruit forward impression carried forward into the initial tasting, with hints of blackberry and fig lingering on the palate. Well balanced, soft tannins, not oaky at all. Had plenty of time to experience the wine’s evolution over several hours, with more nuanced flavors of plum, cherry and chocolate appearing late in the game. It still seemed like a young wine with plenty of room to grow into its full potential. I’m a convert to the magic of large format bottles.

Very dark in the glass. dark smell of brisket, black olive and purple violet. Flavor lighter than looks and smells. Plum, blueberry, Chinese allspice. Still had plenty of life left in it. No need to rush.

An outstanding Syrah from Walla Walla; big, mature, ready to drink; delicious dark fruit, beautiful color, long lasting on one's palate; a smooth, layered and well balanced wine

(Va Piano Black Label Syrah Les Collines Vineyard Walla Walla Valley) Aromatically locked up at present with violets, plum, huckleberry, chocolate, and a light meatiness. It’s plush, pure silk, coating the palate from end to end with elegant fruit flavors that linger on a long finish. Give three years. 14.4% alcohol.

This is a very dark and well balanced syrah. There are flavors of dark currant along with the dark fruit and earth.
