  • I toyed with giving this a 90 early on, the nose was very complex and intriguing, but it was just too oxidized and looking back I think it may be more like the one opened here back in '20 where they said it was like nail varnish. This had a decidedly wooden/herbal nose and I don't think it was supposed to show that. If not flawed, it's close to going there. There wasn't a lot showing it to be a chard, IMO. Just old, tired fruit, dark color in the glass, some vanilla, it drank more like an '01 to me, but again it may just be a flawed bottle. Tough call.

  • Medium straw to yellow color, lighter than I expected actually. The nose takes a little while to open, but when it does it shows white peach and a really attractive stony earth quality. Not astounding complex, but very distinctive. The palate is medium light in weight but with impressive intensity and bright but well integrated acidity. The flavors lean more towards yellow peach than white, with some orange zest accents. The finish is quite persistent, again leaning towards yellow peach. Delightful wine, my only bottle. Hard to know whether there's upside development ahead of this, but I'm certain it will drink at this level for quite some time.

  • Medium yellow color, immediate nose of lemon and minerals improving over the next hour, intense lemon, stone fruit and refreshing acidity on palate, very clean and focused, long finish. The wine has aged nicely in our cellar since purchase from Rhys upon release. Served with broiled Alaskan lingcod.

  • OTH
Had expected more, but this is just close to gone/nail varnish. Drink up.

  • Very nice - this strikes a good balance between richness and minerality, and is incredibly food-friendly. It's amazing to see chardonnay like this coming from California.
