  • MAGA theme night at Maison Dakota. Pop and poured. High fill up into neck ullage. Pristine cork removed with Durand which was actually overkill unnecessary but always a good precaution with aged gems like this. Great provenance as always from Vinum Singapore. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of green herbs, classic bell peppers, tobacco, blackcurrant, cassis, blackberries, black cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), totally integrated silky high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, cassis fruit, roasted bell peppers, green herbs, tobacco leaf, cedar, cigarbox, pencil lead graphite, bits of cocoa powder. Long finish.
Very good quality. Very complex. If tasted blind I would have guessed a 90s Left Bank Bordeaux classic claret.
Still can age as it has not developed tertiary earth yet. Amazing life!
First made in 1988, this is the second vintage of it. I think it is a predominant Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
Back label says grapes from the winery's estate vineyards high on the slopes of Mount St. Helena overlooking Knights Valley.

  • Cassis, cedar on the nose. Still nice fruit. Well balanced and ready to drink. Compared quite nicely to an 89 Beycheyvelle served at the same time.
