  • This is really a lovely wine for its age. Mid-shoulder fill and wizened cork that was saved by a Durand. Clear, medium dark color without much to indicate age. The nose is a bit muted, but the palate is surprising, with a solid core of cherry fruit and a serious balsamic twang - not necessarily vinegar but the lovely sweet taste of fine balsamic, followed by smoke. The finish isn't super long, and this doesn't have the complexity of aged Bordeaux, for example, but it is a fun drink. The flavor reminds me slightly of Musar. Glad to have a few more, but the fills and corks probably mean this should go sooner rather than later.

  • Lovely old sangiovese, with medium body and aromas and flavors of cherry, sandalwood and dried leaves. No tannins to speak, but doesn't come off as to fragile or over the hill. Glad to have a few more.
