Drank at chateau, note to AG the forbidding tannins have not moderated over time, too tannic to notice much else, $50 at chateau, won’t be drinking again.

Mostly Merlot with some Cabernet Franc in the mix. Fermented in stainless steel, aged for 12-16 months in barriques of which 50% were new.
Almost completely opaque black cherry color. Very pronounced blackcurrant character in the nose along with rather ripe and sweet aromas of dark forest berries, some savory wood, a little bit of licorice and a slightly vegetal hint of leafiness. Overall the new oak is pretty nicely hidden. The wine is rich, full-bodied and supply on the palate with quite bold and concentrated flavors of very ripe dark plums, pronounced blackcurrant character, some sweet oak spice, a little bit of crunchy forest berries and a hint of licorice. The wine is pretty soft and round due to the modest acidity and quite light and mellow tannins that give only some light grit to the wine without noticeable grip. The finish is rich and slightly bitter with pronounced sweet and slightly woody oak spice, juicy dark plums, a little bit of ripe blackberry character and a hint of tannic grip.
A decent St. Émilion whose oak character seems to grow from barely noticeable to rather pronounced when following the evolution from the nose to the aftertaste. Overall the wine is enjoyable and also surprisingly ripe for a 2012, but it is lacking quite a bit in the structure department: I'd like to age a wine that has this much new oak (at least in the aftertaste), but the acidity and tannins don't really promise enough cellaring potential for the oak to age out. Now the wine is quite good and enjoyable, but rather forgettable. At 25€ it is somewhat worth the price, but there are many better wines to be had at that price.

Sample. For the vintage this wine disappoints a bit. There are red fruits, herbs and spiciness but also green and unripe impressions. Overall ok acidity and tannin and a little better than 2011, but not really convincing. Would like to try again around 2017.

Medium bodied, ripe, sweet, fresh and packed with juicy fruits, stone and licorice, this soft textured wine will drink well young.
