Monday Night Bordeaux (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Quite olively in nature, alongside classic black fruits with their sweetness lingering on the edge of the tongue, but overall I did not feel that this was in an especially good spot - too chewy at this stage and with a noticeable hot touch, not a surprise to see this coming in at 14.5%. I would leave this for a few more years.

Monday night Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall): 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. This was pretty good in its style, and not too young to enjoy. Yes, it was big, dark and concentrated, with oodles of succulent fruit, but there were also some interesting notes of smoke and meat, even some florality, and a silky finish. 14.5% abv but I didn't find that too distracting - it comes with the territory.

Bordeaux at Hawksmoor: Ripe Merlot then! Plush, rich and chocolatey, violets, and a pure green pepper note. Some ripe raspberry and darker plum. Tannins are generous, encapsulated by the density of the fruit. The alcohol feels a bit spiky and volatile - you'd guess more than the 14.5% on the label, finish is slightly abrupt. Quite loveable in a smack you round the face kind of way, but a bit much right now and the alcohol heat throws it off slightly

Everything you could wish for from a wine at this level. Rich nose of cassis, cherry and smoke. Elegant, long palate with fine tannins and delicious juicy finish. Drinking beautifully - it’s in a nice place to enjoy now - lively and balanced. Solid 90/100.

Tasty and creamy dark berries, some licorice. Beautifully round with pleasant acidity and friendly tannin. Still youthful. Taste again around 2024. 90+ for now.
