Tending to full bodied, big and rich and comes across a bit over extracted. Day one it’s a bit anonymous. Day two some Hunter earth and subtle peppery notes become more prominent, much more enjoyable. Could do with a few more years to come together

{screwcap, 14.5%} As for last time; youthful, plenty of ripe plum and spiced flavours, mild powdery tannins, medium body. Easy-drinking modern shiraz, carries the alcohol OK but would be better a little lower with more freshness. Decent enough.

{screwcap, 14.5%} Makes quite a show in the glass over time, this. Initially fruity and sweet; blackberry, liquorice; obviously ripe. With a bit more time it turns a little more savoury, both on the nose and palate. Still, it always manages to convey some Hunter earthiness, despite the very ripe, alcoholic qualities. Medium/full-bodied, and fairly savoury for a 14.5% wine; it has medium powdery tannins, and medium acid. There's not much development evident on the palate yet; it's still all blackberry, sweet corn, a touch of liquorice. Better in 3-5 years, but drinkable without regrets now.

Wine-Ark boys on tour - Hunter Valley 2014 - Day 1 (Hunter Valley): ripe black plum, slight reductive notes which blow off with agitation, very slight peppery spice. In the mouth the wine has flavours of ripe black plum and black pepper with firm tannins, the acidity, which is quite searing, then takes over. Spice on the finish.

Andrew Thomas continues to deliver top quality wine. The Sweetwater is a bright, lush and deep burgundy in colour. It is ample bodied with intense aromas and a juicy fruit bouquet. Flavours of ripe black cherries, red currants, raspberries, mocha and black pepper. The finish is persistent and medium. Best drinking to 2026.
