Carafé approx 3h avant le repas mais aurait été tout aussi intéressant, ouvert au denier moment. Un nez un peu méridional sur l’olive et le thym et une bouche ample avec de la rondeur sur des arômes fumés.

March Rhônes (Chicago, IL): Probably the best bottle of Chapoutier I've ever had. Surprisingly restrained use of oak here (way better than the 2011 Guigal Landonne tonight). Served blind, this would have been readily identifiable as syrah (and not Chapoutier). All that said, this is still fairly nondescript and at best is a relatively anonymous, serviceable bottle of syrah. Which of course makes it a phenomenally great bottle of Chapoutier.

Opened for 3 hours, dark purple, black berries, flowery (lavender?), sweet tobacco. Fresh, elegant, soft tannins. Medium body, dark fruits, nice energy. Had two last glasses the next day, kept well, light menthol. Very pleasurable, classy and elegant côte rotie…

My first cote-rotie and wow, it was spectacular! Opened, tasted, then let it get some air for about 45 minutes. It was already great on PnP, but I did notice a green note in the finish. Not bad, but it was there. By time we poured for dinner (mixed grill) and it got additional air in the glass, that green note had subsided and it was just singing. Too much going on to describe...the flowers, fruit, tobacco, herbs. Just awesome. Glad I have another one.

Ken's Cozy Cote Rotie's and some fine tequila's (Casa KT): Higher-toned perfumed nose with a blend of red and darker fruits. Tight on the finish with a touch of smoke. Groups tied for 3/4 (my 2/4)
