  • Even better than the previous bottle. From a much-misunderstood vintage where there were great wines, and this is one of them: Echézeaux stink, purity and silkiness on the palate, depth, precision, freshness, complexity, development in the mouth. Cellared since original release.

  • Two Great Red Burgundy (Yan's China Bistro, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Pulled the cork and immediately, saddle leather, red cherry, allspice, gamey, roasted coffee grounds, and floral dark fruit, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, delicious, elegant, rich fruit, mouth filling, at peak, medium/long finish, lovely aftertaste, lighter color in the glass and lighter fruit on the palate than the Engel Echezeaux but a huge step up in nose, taste, and enjoyment. Great Burgundy is Great when paired with Alex's Duck. Thank you Alex.

  • Beautiful, pure, mature Echézeaux with precise red fruits, Echézeaux earth, and incredible silk texture.

  • At Jade Palace for a "Top 10 Burg producer" theme. This is a really curious wine. I've had 2 very ordinary bottles but this one blew my doubts away. Very pure, bright red, lovely vibrancy. Nose was classic Vosne, with the elegance of a Musigny. Spice, hint of wood, sweet cherries, lots of silky fine tannins, with the right amount of acidity and minerals. This was one bloody well balanced Echezeaux, and I was really pleasantly surprised. Lasted very well in the glass, but surely there can't be that much variation from the same case! This wine was polished up so quickly nobody managed a second pour, but no doubting the pedigree, the brilliance of the Rouget Echezeaux 98. In a great drinking window, but if you have a good bottle or a good source, will last well into its 30th birthday.
