  • I enjoyed this bottle tonight, undecanted, over a couple of hours, paired with salad, vege samosas with tamarind sauce, vege meatballs, part of Meredith's grilled cheese sandwich, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Soft, balanced, still in the zone but probably not what it once was. Elegant, easy to drink, great with the meal. Initially lots of barnyard, some cigar or tobacco, which I believe was mentioned in another review, very light root beer for a minute, some berry notes. There was another note or two which I could not identify. Suffice it to say that the quality and complexity was well worth the price tag.

  • Enjoyed this bottle, undecanted, with chicken tikka from The Oven. Initially open with soft black and red fruit, graphite, tobacco, maybe something else. Evolved quickly, not necessarily in a good way. Still pleasant, but clearly past its prime. This was probably excellent QPR 2-3 years ago.

  • A follow up taste, after my February 2019 note. Consistent notes from this well stored bottle, evolving a little faster than I imagined it would when it bowled me over 3 years ago. Now, it blooms in the glass after 10 minutes, only to close up, and shorten 20 minutes later. As it does that, palate evolves from sweet black and red fruit, black cherry, raspberry and light cigar wrapper with a long finish to burnt popcorn, fireplace oak, white pepper and a thin, tight 20 second finish. So, for 20 minutes or so this is a thrilling 95 point exemplar of how great gamay can be, then it reminds you to drink up. Ten years old, 3 or 4 to go, but rarely has a $20 bottle brought such pleasure!!

  • I was blinded on this and initially thought it might be a Zin or Syrah, but with contemplation I realized that it was Gamay. As this wine saw air, it softened and became more floral. Still young, it shows promise for the future.
