  • Let this wine breathe!...for several hours. Drinking after unscrewing the cap is wasteful! After several hours of air, it reveals tremendous weight and depth, Wurtzgarten spice and slate on full display.

  • Nice Riesling. I was getting an interesting petroleum nuance that I typically associate with older Riesling.

  • Tasted over two days, as a benchmark Spätlese, alongside the 2015 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese. This idea came about after recently tasting side-by-side the ultra-sexy 2015 JJ Prum WS and GH Kabinetts that have received great press, but I found lacking underlying substance.

This wine held the same form it has shown in four tastings over nearly three years. A Riesling of tremendous range, depth, and power. Exceptionally structured, inflection changing, and very long. Far from maturity. 93-94.

  • Drank over three days. Was elated to find this Stateside after tasting it at Monchhof in 2015, especially for under $20. Upon unscrewing the cap, and for the next three hours, the wine came off somewhat fat and candied, with prickly white pepper notes, in short, generally uninspiring, though it did show signs of greatness near the four hour mark. Returned to it the following evening to find a precise, lifted, and wholly robust offering. Saved a glass for the third evening, tonight, which did not disappoint, and actually made the strongest impression. A spectacular and powerfully structured wine that needs, indeed, screams for air!!! 93-94.
