  • Written nearly a year later from memory, the day after drinking a bottle of the 1988. The lightest Bea I've had, standing in stark contrast to the 1988. Earthy and herbal, but not overwhelmingly so; the typical Bea brashness had evened out into a lighter, altogether more "refined" wine. You could say this was the best of both worlds: the unmistakable Montefalco terroir and Bea style, paired with elegance at 23 years of age. This was at its peak a year ago. Bottle #1157. Rated 3 on a scale of -1 to 3.

  • I got to taste the 1990 Sagrantino at a tasting. It was musty, rich and soft, but still big and with that typical black fruit, wild flowers and oregano nose. I'd love to see the 04 in 10 years.
