Grand Crus of Domaine d'Auvenay (The Grill): 00320/870. From the pop a very compelling Pinot, all the elegance one wants in here. It did get perhaps too much air once poured, showing sweetness and earthiness characteristic of both the vintage and the terroir. With air it blossomed again in the glass, floral, fine, meaty. 95

Auvenay bonnes mares verses the roumier bonnes mares. This is more expressive immediately delivering balanced layers floral red fruits and minerals but wait this is not there yet! What seems less robust and more feminine to the more masculine roumier in terms of concentration . Advice to breathe 1.5-2 hours before serving. Given it more time it gradually put on weight with sweetness and spice jumping out of the gate. Another perfect example of the vintage. 94-95

Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Perfumed start with spice and floral notes combine with ripe fruit that is so unmistakably Leroy. More firm finish than I recall from last time opened a few years back, but this still has upside.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Bottle with perfect fill. Served alongside Leroy 1998 Richebourg, I kept changing my mind on which i preferred for the 20-30 minutes I had both in glass. Ripe red and black berry aromas with lots of floral notes. Similar fruit flavors with lots of concentration and emerging hints of starting its evolution. Great now, in fact the best this wine has ever performed, and I expect this will be even better in another decade+.

The nose was not flavorful and floral as I would expect more from Leroy's grand cru. However, the structure of the wine was very elegant. People who had tasted it few years back said it was a better wine than what it was last night.
