  • This was sold to me at the store as an unoaked Chardonnay, but after some label research, I believe this is not the unoaked version (my fault for leaving my phone at home). Drinking this bottle was a last minute decision that I popped in the freezer 10 minutes before dinner, so the first glass was served at around 50 degrees F.

1st glass: Drinking from a standard white wine glass. The color is pretty, mid-golden. It's got some wood on the nose for sure. I'm a little nervous, because I don't care for oak. Underneath the wood is crisp white linen. I can't find any fruit. WOW! The oak is very minimal on the palette. Very deceiving. Very smooth, a small wash of mineral and the minimal oak. Still no fruit. Good acidity on the finish. It's pairing well with my $7.99 Pizza Hut hand tossed pizza with cheese, green pepper and red onion, and the extra hot bone in wings. It REALLY compliments the wings. Seriously, drink 50ish degree F light-oak/high acidity chardonnay, with hot wings. You won't be disappointed. I'm not sure what the alcohol content of this is, but I'm already feeling a 5oz pour. I'm going to give this first glass an 85, because of the lack of fruit.

2nd Glass: The bottle has been back in the freezer for about 15 minutes. I'm estimating the temp is now mid-40's F. Oak is now almost non-existent on the nose, it's all spring afternoon now. Very bright. Oak is gone on the palette. Hello fruit! Still some minerals, but faded, and a lot less acidity on the finish which doesn't bode well with my hot wings (breathes fire). It's really complimenting the pizza though! I'm giving up on the wings for now, and giving this glass an 87.

3rd glass: Another 15 minutes has passed. Bottle is very cold. I'm guessing the wine temp to be close to the mid/low-30's. The nose is now crisp and super clean, but not sterile. Oak is still almost non-existent. Palette is clean. I can't find the oak. It's as bright as an midafternoon in Arizona. The fruit is gone, but I'm not even mad about it. Some of the acidity came back, but not strong enough to cut through the wings. I still can't find the oak. It's lost it's pairing with the pizza. This is almost a stand alone wine now. I'm going to give this glass an 87.

Overall, I really enjoyed the versatility of this wine. I'm going to leave it out, take a nap, and later put it back in the freezer for 10 minutes and finish my hot wings.

    Cheers!

  • Good QPR. Very nice wine for the price. Crisp acidity with medium body citrus flavors.

  • A consistent Estancia offering, with decent balance, but the overall sharpness is a turnoff. A lovely fruitful nose, but with that same sharp edge. Some would say 'crispness', but it detracts from the experience. For the price, a good value. A citrus fruit attack, mid-bodied, and a sufficient finish. There are others in this price range with more refined, silky texture.
