  • Opened and poured a taster to find an absolute monster, immediately decanted and decided to come back in about an hour. Color in the decanter is still inky and deep with edges just starting to show some brownish age, but really defies it age it appears. Aromas filled the room with dark fruits, leather, spice, some mushroom earthiness. Flavors of dark fruit plum, blackberry, black pepper and sweet baking spice. Further spiced and cedar notes on the nose came through on later glasses. The dark fruits are mouth-coating with still bold tannins and good acidity. A monster at first that really became more elegant with a long rich finish is rich with touches of chocolate.

Decided to kick off holiday week with what must almost be the end the of my Delectus Petite Sirah. In recent times I have seen that the tasting room is no longer operating and many of the library wines have been offered. Purchased years ago, I assumed the transaction was specific focused on the centrally located tasting room as the estate vineyards in Knights Valley were not included (later sold to neighbor Peter Micheal). Interested to see what come of the property.

  • This wine remains a bit disjointed. Decanted for approximately 45 minutes. Great color and initial nose of jammy dark fruit, cedar, earth and funk along with some heat. Kind of funky and old world like on the palate. Would have probably paired better with some stinky cheese. My wife and daughter passed on it. Had the 2010 petit syrah at the winery about 5-6 years ago which I loved. Was sold out so I purchased the 2013 hoping it would pan out to be as good with some age, but alas it hasn't. Drink or hold if you like your wine on the funky side.

  • Decanted and drank over the course of a couple of hours. Dark and brooding purple black. Jammy nose but a bit disjointed. High ETOH and a somewhat unpleasant tannic finish which hurt the overall score. With a nice fatty meal this wine becomes significantly more palatable. So over the course of four bottles over the last three plus years this wine has been all over the place. Stay tuned as to what my last two bottles will bring. Drink or hold.

  • Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $50+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Opaque core with thin purple rim; tar, blackcurrant, cassis, dark chocolate, some menthol, some herb, ripe dark fruit on the cusp of being overdone; Turley Rattlesnake Petite Sirah?
