  • Popped and poured - if you open one of these do not decant, and drink quickly. Pulled directly from the winery's cellar and consumed a few hours later. Aromas include deep and sweet cherry and blackberry, as in super deep and beautifully sweet. It's on that compote level. There's wonderful cedar, heavily worn leather, and sweet baking spice. Full bodied and beautifully balanced. The acid is round and juicy while the tannins are super fine, refined, and offer just the right level of grip. The structure is (obviously) full mature, and quite elegant at this point. This is is what happens, apparently, to Smith-Madrone in a good vintage after 35 years in the cellar. There's life left, but absolutely no reason to wait. It's tertiary bliss. Incredible.
