  • "Simple" Friday Dinner: Guan Hin (Guan Hin / Extra Space): One of a pair of very nice white Burgs, this was opened a few hours before I got to it. I got a feel that it benefitted from the air - it was generously open, giving, and very pleasurable when I got to it. A classic Chassagne, and very well-made too. The nose showed barely a smidgen of age in its lovely scents of figs, yellow plums and red apples flecked with just a tiny bit of honey and a touch of spice. There was just a hint of oxidation, but so slight that it was barely registering beneath the rest of the bouquet. None of that on the palate thankfully. In fact, this was so alive, so vibrant that I guessed it as something a decade or more younger than its 21 years. Indeed, it was hard to tell which was older between this and a 1999 Lafon Meursault Charmes on the same flight. There was a tiny bit of the heat of the vintage, but what came out more was a lovely, integrated melange of spice, flinty mineral, apples and yellow plums, all very clean, almost pure, with typical JN Gagnard elegance and poise wrapped in a creamily textured and flavoured robe as it moved in a lovely long finish. Not perfect, this had bits sticking out here and there from its otherwise polished whole, but it was very nice indeed.
