The nose was perfumed and intense with dried flowers, rich black cherry, roasted nuts, exotic spice, balsamic tones, gravel dust and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it was silky with vibrant currents of acidity ushering in dark fruits, cedar and spice notes. Mounting tannin coated the palate throughout the finish, drying out the fruit and reminding me that this is a young Barolo.

Equally tasty as the Enrico VI, this is super fragrant. Minerals, layered and lots of iron ore and red rock again. Absolutely Italian with touches of sexy ripe fruit on the mid palate.

The nose on the 2010 Gattera was seductive and rich with dark black cherry, plum, sweet balsamic tones, licorice and minerals. On the palate, this turned more to youthful restraint, as tart red berry fruit and mineral tones washed against the senses, only to be quickly reeled in by fine tannin. The finish was structured, as tannin and acid seemed to tug at the palate, yet through it all a note of concentrated red fruit lingered long. This is a wine that requires patience, and a lot of it, yet should blossom into something wonderful.

Tasted alongside the Monfalletto from the same producer and despite being 40% more expensive I'm not convinced the wine was any better but still very good. Intense black and red fruit flavours which are persistent, will evolve into a great wine I'm sure but scored on what I'm tatsing now, not it's potential.

This must have been a bad bottle! Almost sweet! No rating as it was faulty!
