I have a bunch of 2001 and 2002 Auslese I’m just starting to open up. 2002 is underrated. This is deep golden. Light botrytis/pineapple nose. But on the palate this wine shines. I got intense apricots. Very full flavored and unctuous, just rolls in your mouth and fills it with loads of fruit but still showing acid. Very long finish of that initial pineapple I noticed on the nose. Drinking beautifully now but I dare say it will live for another 5 years.

Slight spritz upon opening with a beautiful golden color. A hint of petrol on the nose. Really deep palate with lots of ripe peaches. great balance. My WOTN.

Chicago ♥ Selbach-Oster (Chicago, IL): #20-03, 8.5% abv. Add 2002 to another one of those deeply underrated vintages. This shows a fair bit of riper fruit, but nothing too ripe nor too racy. In fact, this is about as middle-of-the-road as you could get. The acidity and sweetness here are also in perfect balance. There's a certain happy peachiness about this wine which makes it an absolutely treat to drink. Showing fantastically now, but in no danger of decline at all.

Delicious. Loads of sweet, ripe fruit and tons of acidity to balance everything out. A big Auslese that doesn't taste heavy or cloying at all. It should only get better from here.
