As others have mentioned, you do taste the iron coming from the red soil in this wine. It is pretty ripe and has 15.2% alcohol which is noticeable at times. I prefer European wines, but I respect the quality here. Compared to the Sbragia version it is slightly more commercial tasting and I prefer the Sbragia.

Gorgeous. Rich, dark fruit, but mostly ironclad structure — and I mean iron. That red soil delivers. Immense flavor with a seemingly limitless, peppery finish. Paired with red wine spaghetti.

We took this along to a restaurant so no opportunity for a lengthy decant. The first taste was a mouthful of flavor nonetheless, and as it opened it softened but the finish was sooooooo long and bright with pepper.

Supper at Maria and Dario's place (Dario and Maria's place, North Strathfield): Ripe blackcurrant compote, slight mint, chewy tannins, rich, big, vanilla, cedar. Phew. Well, it's massive…but…balanced…though monstrous.
